Network based Three (3) Phase Monitoring and Control Device



Three-phase electricity monitoring and control is the most important factor to consider in electric power distribution networks and more especially for industrial electric motors and machines that works only with three phase lines. If any of the three phase line fails, the three phase motor winding will draw more current than the other and excess heat will be generated causing deterioration of the motor insulation. This can permanently damage the motor due to phase failure. Phase failure and unbalanced voltage can damage electric motors. They are the two important problems that always effect smooth running of three phase motors after installation. Phase failure can be said to occur when any of the three phase line is being cut off, while unbalanced voltage is when there is a critical over voltage or under voltage in the three phase lines. It is a very big risky for electric motors when they continue to operate in these conditions.
In some cases, overload and phase failure relays are used to protect three phase motors from these ugly situations, by disconnecting the motor from the power line but some components use in this techniques cannot perform fast switching.
Another area where the detection and monitoring of three phase power lines are very necessary is the utility power distribution transformers and poles. When there are problems in street transformers or electric poles which lead to phase failure, people usually accuse the power distribution company and start to change their loads from one phase to another and at the same time overloading the available phase.
